What is your name and your current occupation?
My name is Riccardo Messi and I am currently working as a concept artist and character designer in New York.
What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
I had my first job in a ceramic factory. My main duty there was to design decorations for new products and collections.  I have also worked as a music teacher and concept artist for amusement parks; then, finally, I entered the world of animation.
What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
Basically I am proud of all my work, because behind each stage of my carrer there has been a path to get me there.  Because of its popularity I would say WInx Club, an Italian animated series that has been a huge hit in many countries around the world, makes me the proudest, as well as having done storyboards for Disney Channel commercials in Italy.

Where are you from and how did you get into the animation business?
I was born and raised in Italy, where the animation industry, especially in past years, had not been at its best.  Drawing is not easy, but Continue reading

My name is Alexandre Belbari, I am 24, and at the moment I work as a Creature Animator in a Film company called Trixter, I am animating Wolves for an Upcoming BBC Series.

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
My best memory of work would be pizza delivering in France, I was doing this job at the same time of my animation studies.  It s bloody dangerous but really fun for a small period. As you get a low salary, you put all your efforts on getting a maximum amount of tips from the client ;p

What are some of your favourite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
As I am a total fan on Marvel films, I was really proud to work on the last Xmen- First Class, and it was also my first film project.  Another favourite project would be Prometheus , it was a really good experience! ( I haven’t seen it yet but I usually love Ridley Scott movies )

How did you become interested in animation?
When I was really young, when I saw for the first time Jurassic Park and Terminator 2. From that moment, my dream was to work in visual effects, Then I saw Continue reading

If you’ve ever been curious about what it’s like to storyboard for The Regular Show, here’s a very in-depth comic about what it takes to make an episode. One of the most interesting things he says at least for me is that the entire show is still done traditionally on paper, using Post-Its, white out and good ‘ol pencils!

You can see the entire comic by clicking this link.

Peter Quinn

What is your name and your current occupation?
Peter Quinn, Art Director at BLINK in Vancouver.
What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
Before getting into animation, I was a pizza chef in Pizza Hut. In fact, I still make fresh dough twice a week for the best homemade pizza you’ll ever have.

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
Panasonic SD Extreme challenge,Having to make an SD card into a charming and entertaining character has its challenges, but I think we nailed it.

Intematix ChromaLit LED lightbulb. From a mograph perspective, this was a delight to work on. I spent days trying to balance lighting, luminosity and global illumination settings, and troubleshooting Ambient Occlusion passes, but when it all worked out, it was really nice to see the virtual LED lightbulb really lighting the scene as it does in real life.

What is your name and your current occupation?
My name is Luke Gustafson and these days I do a lot of storyboarding for 2d and 3d broadcast animation.
What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
In junior high I worked as a labourer for my dad, who did construction. My pay was McDonalds for lunch. Which was awesome. In college I did dozens of low, to no pay, rip-off art and design jobs for low lifes. Which was massively educational.
What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
My first job was for DreamWorks as a 2d FX assistant, that was 2000. We animated on paper. The movie was Joseph King of Dreams, the follow up to super hit, Prince of Egypt.  In 2001 I got to storyboard (sort of, I mainly fixed bgs and did revisions on the boards) for AKA and Danny Antonnucci on Ed, Edd and Eddy, Cartoon Networks longest running series. Many, many superpower artists and directors grew out of that studio. It was a trial by fire kind of place. Many artists had a Continue reading
