Responsible for maintaining the creative look, style and design for a CG show in alignment with the Supervising Producer, TV or Executive Producer, TV vision. Oversee a team of designers to ensure the look of the show while aligning with the confines of the production schedule.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Work with the Supervising Producer to review all scripts and storyboards in detail and discuss the visual elements required.
  • Responsible for working with the design team to create the style guides, model packets, expressions, character construction and turnarounds.
  • Ensure all deadlines are met while providing rough and clean designs as needed. Provide notes on an ongoing basis to local and partner studio while ensuring an efficient workflow. Ensure production staff are made aware of issues or changes.
  • Provide appropriate mentorship and guidance to design team.
  • May need to generate rough designs and retake materials as needed.
  • Cast work appropriately to design team and provide clear directives or specific design needs to both artists and production staff. Be available to address questions and concerns.
  • Review all designs with artist team. Ensure notes and changes are adhered to. Create designs as needed.
  • Mange the entire design process including tracking the status of assignments, questions and ensure all deadlines are met. Work with other creative department heads to review designs and layouts and ensure revisions are monitored.
  • Evaluate all designs against storyboards to ensure all elements are present and that continuity is adhered to.
  • Manage the Background Painters and Color Stylists to ensure all needs / requirements are discussed. Collaborate on all creativedirectives including style, palette and lighting requirements. Oversee changes and revisions through to completion.
  • May be required to participate in all color correction sessions.
  • Collaborate with Producers and Network as needed. Provide artwork and / or materials for promotions, press or special projects.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience needed.
  • BA in Fine Arts or equivalent training / work experience.
  • Significant painting and drawing experience necessary.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in style of show.
  • Understanding of all facets of the CG animation process.
  • Strong knowledge of color theory, lighting, staging and perspective.
  • Strong construction/mechanical skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work well under pressure.
  • Able to learn design software and hardware skills based on needs of the project
  • Solid time-management skills

Jobs: Visiting Assistant Professor: University of Wisconsin-Madison

The Department of Communications Arts at the University of Wisconsin-Madison seeks a Visiting Assistant Professor to teach two courses per semester: a course in 2D character animation, as well as a second course in Visual Effects, 3D character animation, Story Design, or area of specialization.

Appointment is for one year, starting Fall Semester 2014, but has the potential to be renewable. Either advanced degree or equivalent professional experience as an animator is required. College teaching experience is preferred (but not required). Candidate should have a strong portfolio of work (an online demo reel) that demonstrates expertise in character animation. In addition, the ideal candidate should possess a broad knowledge of animation history, as the media production program strongly emphasizes the connection between theory and practice.

  • Partners closely with the Producer from the start of editorial through the final mix. The partnership includes editorial staffing issues, handling the finish schedule for previews and other work-in-progress screenings, sound design and music reviews, supervising the final mix schedule and all final picture deliveries for domestic and international distribution.
  • Develops and manages post schedules, budgets and staffing requirements.
  • Understands how changes may affect the budget, scheduling and overtime
  • Creates Post Production schedules for sound design, film lab and Domestic and International Distribution needs.
  • Supervise external Post facilities that handle Sound Mixing, Film Processing and Digital Cinema Packaging
  • Supervise Audience Preview screenings as well as other VIP screenings.
  • Supervise the Quality Control for work-in-progress and final version masters for all projects.
  • Creates a team environment and helps in keeping morale positive
  • Plays a leadership role in Executive meetings, managing expectations and communicating Post milestones.

Qualifications

  • This is a deadline-driven, fast-paced position that requires technical experience as well as production coordination abilities.
  • Candidate must be organized, have ability to help troubleshoot technical issues and also have good interpersonal skills and remain calm under pressure when communicating with senior management.
  • At least 5 years production experience in Animation or Visual FX. Management experience essential.
  • Computer Animation experience essential.
  • Manage schedules and comprehensive tracking of elements to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Works well under extreme pressure with immovable deadlines
  • Knowledge of Word and Excel

The Animator will be responsible for producing animated elements, shots and sequences under the direction of the Lead Animator and the Animation Supervisor. The Animator will be expected to deliver key frame animation, as well as animation using motion capture data, to be used in a live action feature film or commercial.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

• Reports to Lead Animator or Animation Supervisor, depending upon size of team and established hierarchy.

• Assignments will include animation tests, previs, layout, shots and finals; to be delivered to satisfaction and per delivery schedule.

• Will need to produce high volume and multiple iterations of shots with speed and accuracy.

• Artist needs to be able to function as a solo performer, and as part of a team.

• Full participation to ensure that the highest quality of animation is being achieved on schedule.

Education, Experience and Skills Required:

• Minimum 3 years of experience creating character and creature animation for live action/VFX films.

• Knowledge and work experience in Maya required.

• Additional animation software experience (e.g., 3DS Max, Houdini, Proprietary Packages) are considered a plus.

• Work should demonstrate an experienced ability to define character personality, create fluid motion, organic movement, and storytelling.

• A working knowledge of Motion Capture and/or Rigging is a plus.

• Qualifying collegiate or graduate degrees and awards are preferred.
