KUBO AND THE TWO STRINGS TEASER TRAILER LIVE!

Laika’s latest film looks to be pretty cool! Looking forward to it!

Synopsis: Kubo and the Two Strings is an epic action-adventure set in a fantastical Japan from acclaimed animation studio LAIKA.

Clever, kindhearted Kubo (voiced by Art Parkinson of Game of Thrones) ekes out a humble living, telling stories to the people of his seaside town including Hosato (George Takei), Hashi (Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa) and Kamekichi (Academy Award nominee Brenda Vaccaro). But his relatively quiet existence is shattered when he accidentally summons a spirit from his past which storms down from the heavens to enforce an age-old vendetta. Now on the run, Kubo joins forces with Monkey (Academy Award winner Charlize Theron) and Beetle (Academy Award winner Matthew McConaughey), and sets out on a thrilling quest to save his family and solve the mystery of his fallen father, the greatest samurai warrior the world has ever known. With the help of his shamisen – a magical musical instrument – Kubo must battle gods and monsters, including the vengeful Moon King (Academy Award nominee Ralph Fiennes) and the evil twin Sisters (Academy Award nominee Rooney Mara) to unlock the secret of his legacy, reunite his family and fulfill his heroic destiny.

DHX MEDIA AND DREAMWORKS ANIMATION STRIKE STRATEGIC CONTENT PACT

CENSING DEALS TO BRING MORE THAN 1,300 ADDITIONAL HALF-HOURS TO DHX TELEVISION

Halifax, NS & Glendale, CA, 8 December 2015 – DHX Media (“DHX” or the “Company”) (NASDAQ: DHXM; TSX: DHX.A, DHX.B), a key player internationally in the creation of content for families and children, and DreamWorks Animation (NASDAQ: DWA), a leading family entertainment company, have entered into a five-year agreement to co-produce 130 episodes of original animated children’s content at DHX Studios. Content under the deal will air on DHX Television’s suite of channels, which includes Family Channel, Family Jr., Family CHRGD and Télémagino. DHX will handle distribution for the content in Canada and DWA will distribute to the rest of the world.

In addition, DHX Media has licensed more than 1,000 half-hours of television programming from DreamWorks Animation, to be broadcast beginning as early as June 2016 across DHX Television’s channels. DHX Television will thus become the exclusive television network for this DreamWorks Animation television content in Canada. Series coming to the network include All Hail King Julien, The Mr. Peabody & Sherman Show, Dragons: Race to the Edge, The Croods, and many others.

AwesomenessTV is a multi-platform media company that is a global leader in producing content for the Gen Z audience. The series included in the agreement will air on Family Channel’s previously announced evening teen block, F2N, which launches in January 2016, anchored by DHX’s Degrassi: Next Class. DHX will also handle distribution for the AwesomenessTV content in Canada, including SVOD and OTT.

Dana Landry, CEO of DHX Media, commented: “We are excited to be teaming up with DreamWorks Animation and AwesomenessTV. These are two of the world’s leading content producers in the kids, teen and family space and we look forward to creating fantastic new series with them, and to bringing many of their exciting titles to our channels for Canadian families to enjoy.”

Ann Daly, President of DreamWorks Animation, commented: “We are incredibly pleased to welcome DHX to our family of world-leading broadcasters. This pact with DHX will not only expand the footprint of our existing library, but also create new branded series in Canada with global appeal.”

Adobe renames Flash CC to Animate CC

Adobe renames Flash CC to Animate CC

Adobe Animate CC

Today Adobe announced that they’re finally pulling away from the stigma Steve Jobs created concerning Flash and that it was ‘dead’. Well now Jobs himself is dead and Flash? Well it’s apparently being resurrected as Animate CC. I have to say I welcome it because now no one will tell me I’m using outdated technology when still it’s perfectly good. No one will say, “Oh didn’t they stop making that?” And finally when people say “Isn’t Flash dead?” NOW, I can say “Yep, but we use something called Animate.”

From the Adobe Blog:

For nearly two decades, Flash Professional has been the standard for producing rich animations on the web. Because of the emergence of HTML5 and demand for animations that leverage web standards, we completely rewrote the tool over the past few years to incorporate native HTML5 Canvas and WebGL support. To more accurately represent its position as the premier animation tool for the web and beyond, Flash Professional will be renamed Adobe Animate CC, starting with the next release in early 2016.

Here’s what you can expect in Animate CC:

  • Drawing, illustration and authoring
    • Vector art brushes – Modify the path of a stroke after it’s been drawn, and scale them to any resolution without losing quality. You can also make custom brushes and import brushes created with Adobe Capture CC.
    • 360° rotatable canvas – Rotate the canvas on any pivot point as you draw to get the perfect angle and strokes. You can even use this feature with a Wacom Cintiq!
    • Improved pencils and brushes – Draw smooth, precise vector outlines along a curve and get faster live previews.
    • Easier audio syncing – Control audio looping directly on the timeline, without having to code.
    • Faster color changing – Naming tagged colors lets you change one color and have it automatically update your entire project.
    • Colored onion skinning – Easily orchestrate complex animations now that adjacent frames can have different color and alpha values.
  • CreativeSync integration
    • Adobe Stock – Browse and license millions of high-quality photos, illustrations and vector graphics directly in Animate CC. You can even add life to static content by adding animations to them.
    • Creative Cloud Libraries – Access colors, vector graphics and brushes directly as you work.
  • Output capabilities
    • Multiplatform support: HTML5 Canvas, WebGL, Flash (SWF), AIR, video, and custom platforms (such as SVG) via extensions.
    • 4K+ video export – Export videos with custom resolutions for the latest Ultra HD and Hi-DPI displays.
    • Custom resolution export – Revitalize older content by resizing and optimizing them for any resolution, such as Ultra HD and Hi-DPI displays.
    • .OAM support – Export your project as an .OAM file for easy importing to Adobe Muse, InDesign, DPS and Dreamweaver.

New Wildseed Adult Animation shows

Wildseed Studios has unveiled two new adult animation shows.

Wolf Jenkins

#WolfJenkins

What show gives you lines like “General Ho Phung was busy being a twat to an animal” and “It was a beautiful, badly drawn, summers day”? Say hello to Wolf Jenkins. Created by comic actor and Channel 4 Comedy blap star Andy Needle and produced by Wildseed Studios, the show follows hero Vietnam Vet Wolf Jenkins on a mission of violence against the evil, bad guys to rescue the animals, particularly those that were mugged, tortured or made to wear a fez. Negotiating with the enemy is not an option for our war hero because if there’s one thing Wolf Jenkins loves as much as fluffy little animals it’s ripping out a man’s insides and chucking them into another man’s eyes.

Lone Wolves

#lonewolves

Wildseed Studios has unveiled Lone Wolves, a new animated comedy by the SpinKickBros that follows two feral teenage boys being brought up by their single dad, a Hell’s Angel type who doesn’t want them to repeat his mistakes but is secretly proud when they rebel – think Die Hard meets Dawsons Creek.  This family experiences the same trials and tribulations as every other family the world over, just rougher, tougher and swearier. Each episode deals with important things like girl trouble and how to get booze for a party.

Hothouse program for emerging Canadian animators

NFB studios across Canada to take part in Hothouse’s 11th season

November 26, 2015 – Toronto – National Film Board of Canada (NFB)

The National Film Board of Canada (NFB) is seeking submissions for its Hothouse apprenticeship program for emerging Canadian animators, now in its 11th season.

Canadian filmmakers and artists can apply at http://films.nfb.ca/hothouse by December 11 for the chance to be one of six participants in a 12-week paid apprenticeship program with NFB animation professionals—a one-of-a-kind experience working with the NFB’s Oscar-winning Animation Studio.

This year’s mentoring director is Malcolm Sutherland, a Montreal-based director, animator and designer for film, television, web commercials and music videos. A participant in the very first Hothouse, he’s the first alumnus to return as project mentor.

In another first for Hothouse, NFB studios across the country are getting in on the act as well: grassroots filmmaking and community-building are this year’s mantras as participants work remotely through their nearest NFB production centre, while the Animation Studio in Montreal remains the creative engine.

The theme for Hothouse 11 is Found Sound 2.0―a reboot of last year’s successful theme, in which organizers trawled the Internet for audio clips that were intriguing, unusual, unnerving, or somehow full of subtext and hidden meaning. This year, there’s a new twist: participants can either use one of 14 pre-selected audio clips or submit an audio clip of their own choice. Found sound begs for satire and subversion, so applicants are encouraged to think of the audio as a springboard for their own creativity: don’t be afraid to re-interpret, comment on or play with the original meaning.

In addition to Sutherland, some of Canada’s most acclaimed new generation of animators got their start in Hothouse, including Patrick Doyon, nominated for an Oscar for his NFB animated short Sunday/Dimanche, and Howie Shia, whose NFB short Flutter received the Open Entries Grand Prize at the Tokyo Anime Awards.

Submissions must be received by 5pm EST on Friday, December 11, 2015, and must be sent via e-mail (no snail mail submissions will be accepted). The six successful candidates will be notified by Friday, December 18, 2015. The program will run from February 1 to April 22, 2016.
For more information, visit http://films.nfb.ca/hothouse.
Hothouse continues to be about re-imagining ways of making animation: ways that are faster, more flexible, and that embrace the many possibilities in the animation process while maintaining creative and technical excellence. With Hothouse, the NFB is looking for six talents who are willing and able to jump head-first into this intensive experience.
