Hosted by KOCCA (Korea), the 2015 Asian Animation Summit is owned and produced by Kidscreen, in concert with presenting partners SIPA and DITP (Thailand), MDeC and MCMC (Malaysia) and supporting partner Screen Australia, with a mandate to facilitate international financing and co-production connections for projects from the Asian region.

This year’s event is set to take place in Jeju, South Korea from December 7 to 9—optimal timing for those who are also attending Asia Television Forum in Singapore the previous week (December 2 to 4).

Over the course of the three-day event, each project will be presented in a moderated live pitch and Q&A format, with plenty of time for follow-up meetings and casual networking built into the schedule.

There will also be an informative conference session at the start of each day, touching on topics that are highly relevant to Asian animation producers. They are as follows:

What is your name and your current occupation?
Garrett O’Donoghue. I’m a storyboard artist for film, commercials and television.

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
During college I was a nurse’s aide in a home for adults with profound learning difficulties, swept floors in warehouses and did some factory work. I also (briefly) tasted beer professionally but that part of my life is a bit of a blur now….

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
It’s a show I’ve just finished working on that should be an absolute riot, but we’re not allowed to talk about it yet.

Where are you from and how did you get into the animation business?
I’m from Limerick in Ireland. I studied animation in Dublin in the early nineties when the industry was booming and left college just as Bluth upped-sticks and headed for Arizona. Great time to Continue reading

Animation House Film Roman Bought By Waterman Entertainment

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting (as they are wont to do) that Waterman Entertainment, the animation and live-action production company, has acquired the Burbank-based animation company Film Roman from Starz, it was announced today. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Film Roman is one of the defining names in animated content,” Waterman said in announcing the acquisition.  “Their track record is unparalleled and their team’s passion for executing top-shelf animation is evident in every frame they’ve created. Once it became clear how thoroughly our companies’ assets complemented each other, this deal was almost a foregone conclusion.

Dana Booton, who has been serving as Film Roman’s general manager, has been promoted to president of production. She will continue to oversee the company’s day-to-day business while also managing development and co-productions. Phil Roman, who founded Film Roman in 1984, is returning in the role of chairman emeritus and has been working with Booton and Waterman founder Steve Waterman.
