Direct X 12 and the studio behind ‘Final Fantasy’

During Microsoft’s BUILD dev conference, Square Enix showed off a real-time DirectX 12 tech demo called WITCH: Chapter 0 [cry]. True to its name, this demo includes a crying woman. WITCH features 63 million polygons per scene, “six to 12 times more” than what was possible with DirectX 11, Microsoft says. Check out the real-time demo below. While it’s pretty, and it will be AWESOME for in-game play, it still doesn’t sell me on that this is a real human, if only because it’s possible that her ‘design’ was made up by someone who doesn’t truly understand HOW to build a human face. They took parts they liked or gravitated towards, or even used a model to go from but it still doesn’t loo to me like a person.

HoneyVR is looking for talented CG artists to create pre-rendered VR content

HoneyVR

HoneyVR, a virtual-reality content distributor is looking for talented CG artists to create pre-rendered VR content. We are looking to acquire short pre-rendered (90s – 3mins) animated content which is VR-ready, which basically means rendered as a 360-degree spherical MPEG-4 (2:1 aspect ratio, equirectangular rendering). We’re looking for short films but also what we call short ‘experiences’ — think short, immersive VR experiences like guiding the user through a high-res galaxy, tagging along with a frog in a rainforest, etc.

We pay $2000 per short film and $500 per “”experience””, plus a royalty of $.01 CPV ($.01 every time your piece is viewed). You can do the work at your own pace and generate good side income, and VR is flat out the most fun medium you will ever design for if you are a 3D artist! Check out our Program Guidelines here for detailed info on the program and I hope to be working with some of you guys soon !

What is your name and your current occupation?
Lucas Martell. I’m a writer/director/producer currently developing my own projects through my company: Martell Animation (martellanimation.com) I also freelance occasionally as a Line producer or CG Supervisor.

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
For one summer I did school photography. You know the guys who go around and take pictures of high schoolers for the yearbook? Worst. Job. Ever.

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
A while back I did a short film called Pigeon: Impossible. It was a lot of fun, and I learned an immense amount by going through that and dealing with every single step of the animation process.

Where are you from and how did you get into the animation business?

I’m from a small town in central Illinois. In college I was a music major, but did a lot of technical work in the recording studio, as well as music videos. I moved to Austin TX after graduating in 2003 with
