What did it take to bring the world of ‘Zootopia’ to life? Fusion spent two years with the production team of Disney’s smash hit film. In ‘Imagining Zootopia,’ you will travel with the team to Africa to explore the animals in their natural habitat and find out how the storytellers and animators dealt with the very real themes of prejudice and bias.

“The Old New World” by Alexey Zakharov

“The Old New World” is an amazingly detailed photo-based animation project that brings alive turn of the century photos by photographer and animator Alexey Zakharov of Moscow, Russia. Zakharov found old photos of US cities from the early 1900s and brought them to life.

There are clearly some issues with the added animation such as at 1:47 where the man isn’t even holding the box in his hands. not sure how that got though but nevertheless if you don’t scrutinize too hand it’s a pretty cool little project!

The photos show New York, Boston, Detroit, Washington, D.C., and Baltimore between 1900 and 1940, and were obtained from the website Shorpy.

It’s a “photo-based animation project” that offers a “travel back in time with a little steampunk time machine,” Zakharov says. “The main part of this video was made with camera projection based on photos.”

Charles X – Can You Do it

Music video directed for the charismatic LA-born musician Charles X for his eagerly anticipated new single entitled Can You Do It in mixed 3D/2D animation produced by Eddy and animated at Brunch Studio.

From the animator:

This collaboration is intended to act as a social commentary which aims to cast light on perceived societal expectations and social norms by integrating elements and people from different walks of life.

I sought to merge the typically highbrow sport of horse racing with the commonly misrepresented “mean streets” of Pacoima, the proud birthplace of Charles X, to challenge any stereotypes or preconceptions of race and social class which may exist in modern day society.

I wanted to communicate Charles’ intended message via the lens of an artificial world in my own style of animation.

“Can You Do It” is now available on Charles X’s new album, “Sounds of the Yesteryear”:

What is your name and your current occupation?

Andrew Martin, 3D Artist and Animator.

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
Worked part-time in a Vegetarian restaurant in Soho as a ‘Stir Fry Cook’ whilst I was looking for animation opportunities in London.
What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?

I have just completed the first part of my short film called ‘Hola’ which is very special to me. The concept, characters, design and animation are all my own work created over the last year. I collaborated with my friend’s band ‘Dusty Plankton’ on the sound track; I’m really proud of how it’s turned out. The whole process was a great learning curve.  I also created and animated the Mascot for the Isle of Man Commonwealth Youth Games 2011; I was born on the Isle of Man so I was very proud to be asked to design the Manx Symbol for the International Games.

How did you become interested in animation?Ever since I was a child I’ve been obsessed with animation. I’ve always draw my own characters, cartoons and creatures ever since I can remember, probably about 4 years old. I was fascinated by creators such as  Continue reading
