Summary of Position
Works under the CG Supervisor to create realistic creature and character animation for commercial productions. Animators at Zoic may be asked to animate anything from an alien slug to a 6 legged chimera so strong visual understanding of anatomy and physics is a must.

Responsibilities:

  • Realistic creature and character animation
  • Ensuring animation meets production deadlines
  • Ensuring animation meets quality standards
  • Knowing and following all pipeline and studio policies and procedures

Qualifications

  • Experience working as a 3D animator within television or commercials, a must.
  • Proficiency animating in Maya from reference, with the ability to take animation to final.
  • Ability to work within a fast-paced team environment.
  • Positive attitude, hard worker, flexible schedule.

My name is Luis Zúñiga, and I’m an artist at Fair Play Labs, what I do there is concept art, illustration, background art, UI design, UI animation, UI integration, 3d animation, modelling, rigging, texturing and unity 3d integration.

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
Well, I’m not the craziest person, but I’ve done handicraft, I worked at a couple of shops, I’ve been a pizza making/delivery guy, a guitarist for tips, and I’ve done some construction work before going to college at age 18, since I began to study digital animation, all work I’ve done has been in the animation/illustration area.

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
I loved to be part of Poster Punch’s second and fourth exhibition, The Pin-up Drink and Poster Punch Open MMXIII, I also loved to be part of El Obsequio, my graduation project, I’m glad we were able to get the work done and to create something we felt and still feel very proud of, that graduation project was under my name only, but I am really grateful to the +20 people that was by my side working on it. At Fair Play I’ve been part of +12 video games and I liked the team dynamics in most of them, but there’s one that I totally loved being part of, mostly because it is till now our most ambitious project of them all, Color Guardians, and its almost done, I love to work on my solo and team projects, all of them have been great and have taught me a lot, but those I mentioned are the ones that comes first to my mind.

About this position:
As a company focused on stereoscopic conversion, the 3D Depth Artist is at the center of it all. We are looking for individuals who have the ability and background experience to execute a broad range of VFX tasks including modeling, rigging, animation and lighting. Working with a team, including a lead artist and supervisors, a Depth Artist must creatively interpret and apply stereo concepts. We’re looking for individuals with a good “stereo eye,” a strong understanding of 3-dimensional space (be it from previous stereo experience or from an artistic background), a working knowledge of Nuke and Maya, and a healthy dose of team spirit. Taking direction/critiques, interpreting notes and learning/applying new skills are key parts of everyday life in our studio.

Requirements & Preferences:

  • Knowledge and Experience with Nuke – Required
  • Knowledge and Experience with Windows (PC) Production Environment – Required
  • Previous working knowledge with Maya as a 3d Generalist or animator – required
  • Knowledge of Practical Filmmaking Techniques – Required
  • Excellent Artistic Ability/Aptitude – Required
  • Knowledge of Stereo-related Terminology – Preferred (but we’ll teach you OUR lingo!)

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
I was a game room attendant (still the best job I’ve ever had), drove an ice cream truck, short order cook, sold albums, art supplies and movie tickets.

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
Probably the most widely known and acclaimed is Lord of the Rings : Return of the King. The most personal satisfaction was probably Stars Wars Episode 3, since it was the project I wanted to work on since I was 12. It only took me about 28 yrs to get there!

How did you become interested in animation?
I was a big fan of monster/sci-fi movies and animation growing up. I didn’t want to be a lawyer so I thought I would try something in the art field.
