What is your name and your current occupation?
My name is Peter, Peter Nagy. I’m a lucky animator, who is a two-time winner of The 11 Second Club and I edit an animation collection-site, the Living Lines Library. I’m currently working as lead animator at Gyár Post Production, in the field of commercials.

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
After I got out of secondary school I had only one job before I found animation. I worked as an excavation graphic for a longer period. As a strong, young man, my work included several things, from precisely drawing the findings to more serious physical work, such as ditching. At such times we threw the soil together with the other manual workers, which I didn’t mind at all, because at least my muscles were kept in good condition.

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
As I glance over the films I have worked in, I like the arch of my career entirely. I like that I started learning it from the very basics. I have always been proud that I started as an inbetweener in Corto Maltese: La cour secrète des Arcanes. I’m glad that I had an opportunity to work with the team of Digic Pictures at the time of Assasin’s Creed Revelations. Although that job was far from the character animation that is dear to me, they were the most professional team I have ever worked with, led by my favourite Hungarian director, István ‘Putyi’ Zorkóczy.

How did you become interested in animation?
I have been drawing ever since my childhood, but those were only still pictures, except for the stick figures moving at the corner of my exercise book. I’ve always been fascinated by Continue reading

Hasbro Expands TV and Feature Film Capabilities with Purchase of Irish Animation Studio

PAWTUCKET, R.I. — Hasbro, Inc. (NASDAQ: HAS) today announced that it has acquired Boulder Media, a multi-award winning Irish animation company based in Dublin. Boulder has produced a variety of award-winning series for Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, Disney and BBC. As a wholly-owned subsidiary, Boulder will continue to produce animated series on behalf of third-party clients, in addition to producing animation projects for Hasbro’s best-known brands. Terms of the transaction, which closed on July 13, 2016, were not disclosed.

“At Hasbro, we’re building our brands through storytelling, and today, we’re telling richer stories across more platforms than ever before,” said Brian Goldner, Hasbro’s Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer. “We are also reinventing traditional modalities of animation production, both creatively and financially. Founded in 2000 by Robert Cullen, Boulder is one of the fastest growing animation studios in Ireland with approximately 150 full-time employees. Boulder will retain its brand and report into Stephen Davis who leads Hasbro’s entertainment and consumer products licensing division. “As one of the largest independent studios producing animation in Hollywood, the time is right for Hasbro to acquire its own animation studio, allowing us to expand our animation and storytelling capabilities even further,” said Stephen Davis, Executive Vice President and Chief Content Officer, Hasbro. “In Boulder, we have found one of the most progressive, innovative and creative teams in the business. We are thrilled to partner with Rob Cullen, Pete Lewis, Jenni MacNeaney and the entire Boulder team as we significantly enhance the execution of our story-led Brand Blueprint strategy.”

“Boulder and Hasbro have ambitious plans for growth, and working together, we will substantially expand our team and our business,” said Robert Cullen, Creative Director, Boulder. “We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to bring to life the Hasbro stories and characters that mean so much to our team, and join a company that’s emerging as an entertainment powerhouse.”

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
I had a job selling chocolate cover amond’s, door to door at double the price you’d usually get a box for normally.  They drove us around in a small school bus to different neighbourhood’s to petal their over priced chocolates. The biggest joke about the job was the pay.

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
I worked on this independent project. It’s called the Mosaik Project,  the idea was to showcase some of Toronto ( Canada ) talent base. The funny thing  is I almost didn’t get the gig.  I was asked to design Toronto but from a robotic view point. I was told I couldn’t use any existing robot designs concepts, everything needed to be original.  I’m sure anyone who designs will agree this kind situation doesn’t happen often. I had full creative range with respect to the clients final approval .  In the end the client was very happy with the work.

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
Panasonic SD Extreme challenge,Having to make an SD card into a charming and entertaining character has its challenges, but I think we nailed it.

Intematix ChromaLit LED lightbulb. From a mograph perspective, this was a delight to work on. I spent days trying to balance lighting, luminosity and global illumination settings, and troubleshooting Ambient Occlusion passes, but when it all worked out, it was really nice to see the virtual LED lightbulb really lighting the scene as it does in real life.

Cheyenne Curtis and im currently working for Disney Television Animation.

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
In Montreal i once worked at this really shady linen store that had no bathrooms. Since i worked alone all day, i used to have to call friends to come over and watch the store for me while i ran to the bathroom! The good part of that story is working alone all day meant some nice sketching time when the store was empty.

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
I’ve had so much fun doing character designs, rotations and special posing for the Disney TV pilot i’m working on. Daron Nefcy and Dave Wasson are so amazing to work with!

How did you become interested in animation?
Originally i had no idea that animation could be a career! I was in Studio Arts at Concordia University in Montreal and i remember feeling like i didn’t quite belong, even though everyone was interested in art. Luckily one of my friends suggested Sheridan Institute in Oakville, and i applied and got in! I had never done animation before, and i was in a class surrounded by these incredibly talented artists who had already made short films before! I really felt Continue reading
