What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?Waiter, DJ, promos, runner for a film crew.

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of6 Goldfish animated music videos, working with David O’Reilly on some [adultswim] idents, my ‘MooseBox’ Nickelodeon project, music videos for my brother’s band ‘The Kiffness’.

How did you become interested in animation?
I’ve always been interested in animation, I’ve drawn since an early age and had tried various animation tests growing up. One of my mother’s friends gave me a book on animation as a birthday present, I guess that all helped.
Where are you from and how did you get into the animation business?
I was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, went to junior school there, high school in Natal, Fine Art in Grahamstown, business degree in Johannesburg, then moved to Plettenberg Bay and I currently commute between Plett and Cape Town. What is your name and your current occupation? 
My name is Laura Murray and I am currently looking for work.
What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
I havent had much jobs in the past, most of my time would of been in college, I finished college in May 2012.
What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
I have worked on a colaborative student short film in college called 45 degrees.  I also worked on an individual film called Trapped.  It is a autobiographical 2d animated film.  I was also involved as a scene prep artist in Magpie 6 Media working on the Travels of Young Marco Polo.

Kat Llewellyn

What is your name and your current occupation?
Kat Llewellyn. I’m an independent animation director, designer, animator, compositor and I co-own Dumfun Productions a boutique creative development company.

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
So many. The worst was a job as a glass etcher in an unheated warehouse on the west side of Chicago.  Another was Senior Editor for a comic book company. I hired artists and writers, set the direction for all titles and wrote several myself. It was extremely educational and I loved the work. The place was a zoo, totally dysfunctional and great fun, too.

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
I particularly enjoyed doing the animations for an American Museum of Natural History exhibit about Captain Robert Scott’s failed attempt to reach the South Pole. The animations were based on actual photos and newspaper illustrations from the time. Last summer I just released my first animated storybook app for kids called The Punky Dunk Project.  There are things I’d change, but overall I’m pretty proud of it.

How did you become interested in animation?

What is your name and your current occupation? 
My name is Nick Swift, and I’m a recent graduate from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.  I’m sort of in the middle of looking to continue my education and searching for a studio position.

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation? 
I haven’t really ever been in any sort of crazy job before.  I’ve worked as an assistant coach for a summer-league swim team, as a host and cashier at a Japanese Steakhouse, and a sales associate in a retail store.  I’ve had the pleasure of meeting a lot of interesting and inspiring people though.

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
I’d have to say that at this point, my favorite projects are the student films I made while I was in school.  They were my first forays into actual animation, and were wonderful learning experiences.  They’ll always have a special place in my heart.

Andrew Pickin. Co-owner of TTA studios. Animator and Artist.

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
Head of engineering and Mechanics at Tenpin Bowling (not quite crazy but a far stretch from animating).

What are some of your favourite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
I’m from a fine art background, so some of my favourite work is actually children’s illustration, although one of my favourite projects so far was working on a music video for the band OBEY: it was just complete artistic license. The more creative the project the better; it doesn’t have to be big, just interesting.

What is your name and your current occupation?
My name is James Woods, and I’m currently a student in the UK, walking those final steps towards graduation! Super excited for the next few years of canned food and dry cereal:)!

 

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
Well, my employment history wouldn’t have been crazy to the average Joe, but I was a lanky (still am, ha), clumsy teenager who found drama in pretty regular jobs. I was a paperboy that cats peed on and swarms of bees chased (yellow t-shirts are insect fodder). I also worked on a food service counter at a supermarket where I cut the tip of my thumb off on a ham slicer (no worries, stitched and glued back in place), and disappointed old ladies with my inexperienced cheese cutting skills. But all of that’s ok, because it spiced things up a little! Cutting off an appendage is character building! I also got to fulfil my British destiny and was an extra in some of the Harry Potter films… My poorly placed foot tripped up Daniel Radcliffe mid scene… No sabotage intended.

 

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
I’m very new to the industry so I have a very small experience bank to draw from. The best time I’ve had was interning for industry veteran Uli Meyer at his London studio over the winter 2011 period. I had a very small hand in helping out on a project at the studio, but the experience of being guided by such talented guys and hearing about the days they used to hang out with animation legends was mind blowing.

 

Where are you from and how did you get into the animation business?
I’m from a little town on the outskirts of London. I guess, like so many other artists in this industry, I drew constantly from a very young age, copying dogs and dinosaurs from Dorling Kingsley books or doodling out the covers from my favourite VHS films. A lot of my drawings were Continue reading
