What is your name and your current occupation?
Hi, my name is Eduard Ersek and I currently work as an animation supervisor.

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
I’m not sure if I can call them crazy, but I used to be a tourist guide. My job was to take a smaller group of tourist around the place where I live and show them nature and culture. So one day I took them on a trip to the mountains the next we visited towns, castles or museums. For a short period I also worked as a translator.

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
There are very few projects I could say I’m proud to have been a part of. Usually when working under a contract time is very short and there is always a compromise between quality and speed. But Continue reading

What is your name and your current occupation?
Kenn McDonald. I’m an animation supervisor for Dreamworks on the Dragons tv series.

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
I don’t know if I’ve had a truly crazy job. I’ve made pizza, served ice-cream and taught English in Japan. The coolest job outside animation I had was working at a fine art foundry that cast bronze statues. That was a gas.

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
Going way back to my 2d days I’d say Cat’s Don’t Dance. I love that movie and it was one of the best times I’ve had on a production. Some other high points would be Stuart Little 2, Beowulf, which was my first gig as a supervisor and Watchmen. I’m having a great time on Dragons now.

How did you become interested in animation?
That would go all the way back to sitting on my Dad’s lap while he drew for me. He’d draw a lot of superheroes and stuff like that. He still paints. From there I was Continue reading

What is your name and your current occupation?
My name is Sandra Ní Chonaola and I am an Animation Supervisor at JAM Media in Dublin, Ireland.

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
Hummm… I don’t know if I’ve had any ‘crazy’, jobs, but I did start out studying Fitness Instruction only to go onto a career in accounting to finally find my way back on track with animation.

What are some of your favourite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
The current one, ‘Tilly and Friends’. Its not only mind-blowing to work with such talented, enthusiastic seasoned animation directors every day, but to get to work on such unique project is truly inspiring. Based on a series of books by author Polly Dunbar, the show is heavily traditional, though it is drawn digitally. We aim to honour the books as much as possible, when a shot is approved in animation it put through After Effects and given a paper texture and a boiling line, that allows it to look just like the books. Its so beautiful, I love it! It’s a pleasure to look at eight or more hours a dayJ

How did you become interested in animation?
I have been a huge fan of Warner Bros for as long as I could remember. The likes of Daffy Duck giving out about his lines etc… persuaded me that these characters where alive… so the concept of becoming an animator happened fairly late for me. I was probably about nine years old, when I got Continue reading

Steve Nichols

What is your name and your current occupation?
Steve Nichols,  Animation Supervisor currently at Digital Domain on the Fox Feature Film “The Watch”.

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
I was a bit of a goth so I took a job at the local Funeral Home as a groundskeeper….not the best place to increase your social circle.  I also worked at a “mom and pop” Video Store Clerk and loved it.

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
There’s a bit on each film.  But, I’d have to say working on District 9 was epic for me.  I’m so proud of everyone’s hard work, the director was Fantastic and the budget rivaled the craft service budget for Avatar.   Go team!

How did you become interested in animation?
The first time I saw a Ray Harryhausen film.  The Golden Voyage of Sinbad on late night TV.  I was hooked.  The monsters were filled with empathy, and I had never seen anything like that before—I was hooked..  I also used to Continue reading

Bob Rutan

What is your name and your current occupation?

Bob Rutan, Animation Supervisor at Wildbrain.
What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
I once video interviewed Devry University students after they got their palms and auras read at a psychic fair in Columbus.
What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
I think The Ricky Gervais Show and El Tigre both look fantastic as finished products. I had a lot of fun working on Family BrainSurge and The Mr Men Show. Kappa Mikey was one of the funnier shows I’ve worked on, which is probably why it has a cult following. I would crack up when I watched the animatics.
How did you become interested in animation?
When I was a kid I wanted to be an astronaut, but when I realized that Continue reading
