Rio 2016 – Panasonic Showcase

Panasonic Japan has invited us to create a one minute video with Vinicius for their showcase at the top of Sugarloaf Mountain. The video will be displayed in 4k and 60p on a huge screen, and we really worked on the amazing sports moves, details and scale of the settings to make the spectacle even bigger. Like everything else involving the Mascots, this film is the chance of a lifetime and we can’t thank Panasonic enough for the support and creative freedom.

“The Giant’s Dream- The Making of Iron Giant” teaser trailer

Iron Giant was arguably one of the greatest animated films of all time, yet it fell on it’s feet at the box office due to executive fear and suppression of advertising which is odd since Warner Bros was literally frothing at the mouth to get an animated feature off the ground. Enter Brad Bird who WB execs reportedly allowed to make the film essentially unsupervised and once they saw the film and how good it was they feared for their jobs and suppressed it as best they could.

REALLY looking forward to this film!

Leo The Lion and the worst animation Netflix has to offer

 

AV Club has an interesting article up about the worst thing Netflix has to offer and if that clip above is any indication of what they have it’s pretty terrible. (Apologies to anyone who worked on it.)

“The streaming-video market is propped up by garbage,” Feldman admits, but Leo The Lion is something special. The film, the story of a vegetarian lion who escorts a group of animals to a lake filled with milk, is already a cult sensation of sorts on Tumblr, where users contribute to an ever-growing thread about the film’s many inconsistencies, mistakes, and baffling details. The strangest aspect of the film may be that the dubbed dialogue and songs do not match up with the subtitles at all. Feldman’s theory is that the subtitles are a literal translation of the original Italian script, while the dubbing has been more localized.

What is your name and your current occupation?
My name is Cale Atkinson and my current full time job is Art Director for RocketSnail Games. I also do contract work in animation and children’s illustrations.
What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
Before I really decided to go into the job direction of animation I was madly into film and making movies. One job I had for a little while was ‘Wedding Videographer’, filming high-end weddings around Vancouver. Interesting times of chasing limos to find photo shoot locations, staying awake during extra long ceremonies, and having my camera eat the tape in the middle of a wedding :O !

 

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
Honestly in one way or another I’m proud of everything I’ve been apart of.  I’m super proud of all the things we are currently working on at RocketSnail Games. The children’s books I’ve been able to illustrate are also something I’m always really excited to be involved in.

How did you become interested in animation?
Always a hard question, as I can’t remember not being interested in animation. As a kid I was crazy about drawing and loved getting any books about cartooning, animation, and comic strips.
