What is your name and your current occupation?
I run a stopmotion animation on the south coast of England called, FoolHardy Films.
What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
Tons and tons of Jobs, in fact most of your time is spent working in jobs other than animation…if you want to do a job you love. I have been a tyre fitter, care worker, picture framer, bingo caller, post man…I could go on.

 

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
I am very proud of my short film Pushkin, it won many awards. And I would have to say the work I do for Nickelodeon’s Nick Jr channel I’m very proud of. I write animate and direct a series of one minute funnies for Nick Jr entitled, Watermill Farm. They get a great response from people who see them and that is very rewarding for me.

Ryan Ortgiesen

What is your name and your current occupation? 
My name is Ryan Ortgiesen. I’m a freelance animator and director in Brooklyn, NY. Thank you for this opportunity, Mike.

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation? 
I’m not sure “crazier” is the right word. Hmmm, maybe zanier. I’ve had a lot of terrible jobs including foundation repair, digging trenches and evicting people from their homes. I’d say the worst was when I worked on this vineyard in France. I chopped wood for six hours a day, put up scaffolding on a five story castle with no safety equipment and was eventually fired. Longest week of my life. It was just like that one episode of The Simpsons.

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
Thus far, I’ve mostly worked for clients doing smaller project and some work for Cartoon Network. My proudest work is my own personal projects because I feel most passionately about the ideas and look. Passion will always spawn greatness within yourself.

How did you become interested in animation?
Being a product of the late 80’s-early 90’s, I was inundated with a barrage of fantastically crappy cartoons, particularly “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” and possibly a little “Jem” thrown in there (she was, after all, truly outrages). When I was around 4 years old, I would Continue reading

Nickelodeon Creates Original Movie In-House with Dell Workstations

Did you spend as much time watching television over the holidays as I did? If so, then you might have caught Nickelodeon’s first original animated TV movie, Albert. In the film, Bobby Moynihan (from “Saturday Night Live”) is the voice of a little Douglas fir tree named Albert who wants to become the Empire City tree.

Albert’s 3.1 million total viewers in Live+7 (which in TV ratings talk means the number of viewers within seven days of first showing) helped Nickelodeon finish 2016 as the number-one kid’s network for the year, according to numbers released last week.

Even if you were one of those millions of viewers, I bet you likely missed the story about how Dell Precision 5810 workstations helped them bring their first 45-minute movie to life, though.

“Using the Dell Precision with NVIDIA Quadro M6000 graphics cards has allowed us to stay competitive with overseas studios because we’re able to turn around results much faster and we’re able to keep a smaller team longer and be more efficient,” said Jason Meier, animation director at Nickelodeon, in the video below.

What is your name and your current occupation?
My name is Ekaterina Maximova, I’m an Artist and Animator.

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
The most crazy job I ever had was purifying onions in a snack bar near my College. I got there accidentally and it was only a 4-days job . After that, I promised myself to work solely in Art, no more experiments).  I also worked as a Scenery Artist just after my graduation. Actually, my major is “Theatrical Scenery painting”, so I worked in the specialty. It was a very interesting job, but I understood that I need something else.

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
It was the first time when I meet with Traditional Animation. I took part in the feature movie “Dobrynya Nikitich i Zmey Gorynych”. This is a story about characters of Traditional Russian folklore. It was a great job and a wonderful time! I made cel-Animation, met great people. I remember that moment when I saw my name in the movie’s titles, I was so excited and proud of myself.

Lois van Baarle

What is your name and your current occupation?
I’m Lois van Baarle and I’m a freelance illustrator/animator working in the Netherlands.

 

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
I am sometimes ashamed to admit that I have never really had a ‘real’ job until becoming a freelance illustrator/animator. As soon as I graduated from college I was getting enough job offers to start working independently, so that’s what I did! So I’ve had a lucky life of not having to work random side jobs and basically only ever having earned money by drawing or animating.

 

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
I’m really proud to have directed ‘The Art of Pho’, an online motion comic (artofpho.submarinechannel.com). Besides being a really
interesting multimedia project, it was really great to direct a project from beginning to end. I also really enjoyed contributing a
few tutorials to D’Artiste Fashion Design by Ballistic Publishing, a publisher that I’ve looked up to for many years now!

What is your name and your current occupation? 
My name is David de Rooij and I am a freelance Animator/Storyboard Artist/Character Designer.

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation? 
While I was doing Art School, I had a couple of little jobs like working at a supermarket, a zoo, a club. I also made a little comic for a division of a big Energy Company.

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of? 
I haven’t been part of many big animation projects yet, but during my internship at Anikey Studios I got to work on a couple of very nice short animated films: “Paul and the Dragon”and “Little Quenton”!

I have always watched cartoons and even made my own comics and flipbooks. I tried to animate digitally in GIF Animator and Flash, drawing with my mouse!
