What is your name and your current occupation?
My name is Edward Ernest. I’m an associate flash designer at Sony Pictures Interactive.

 

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
I was working at Home Depot doing early morning shifts as a freight package handler. There’s nothing like getting up at 3am to unpack and stock products and being unappreciated for your work…(sarcasm).

 

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
I’ve worked on a social game called “Island paradise” and Sony Picture’s first facebook game “Hotel Transylvania Social Game”.

 

Where are you from and how did you get into the animation business?
I was born in New York, I’ve lived in Philadelphia, but I’ve spent most of my life living in Atlanta, GA. I loved watching cartoon as a kid (I still do ). What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
Waiter for half a day in a Paris restaurant, with no prior experience (I spilled the drinks over 5 customers when I couldn’t keep my tray balanced)

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
I traveled the world as a jazz saxophonist. I got to play with Dizzy Gillespie, Art Blakey, Gerry Mulligan amd Brad Mehldau among many others.

What is your name and your current occupation?
My name is Pablo Navarro; I’m an Animation Director and Senior Character Animator.  Right now I’m animating for the movie titled “The Congress”, the next project from Ari Foldman, director of Waltz with Bashir.  Besides that I teach animation as a part time job, and I do tutoring to students here in Barcelona and other cities of Spain.  Also I give lectures and conferences about animation and acting around the globe.

 

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
Well, I work since I’m 8 years old, I used to work on orange and watermelon plantations helping loading the trucks, after that I was a waiter for many years in the family restaurant……although I am a formerly electro-mechanic technician, I never worked as such, I jump into animation right after finishing my studies.I wasn’t fond of those other activities to continue with them 😉  Don’t know if they’re crazy enough jobs…..but surely they don’t have anything to do with animation.

 

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
The project I am most proud it is a movie called Nocturna. That is my favorite project so far.  I really enjoy working with the same Directors of that movie (Adria Garcia and Victor Maldonado plus Alfredo Torres), they create a studio called Headless and I collaborate with them often for new projects and development.

How did you become interested in animation?
Well, I think that all my life I was interested in animation, but when you’re a kid it is difficult to find out, or to put it into words like say “I want to be an animator!!”  My mother found out that the only way to keep me quiet and not doing too much trouble around the house was giving me a paper and a pencil and I could Continue reading

Einar Baldvin

What is your name and your current occupation?
Einar Baldvin, independent animator. I do both my own projects as well as freelance.

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
My father counts ducks and I would assist him when I was younger. It’s all operated from a reportedly haunted research station far up north in Iceland. A very fun place for a child.

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?My film ‘Baboon’ it was my first 2-d film (I did cut-outs before) it was fun to make and the the first festival to accept it was Annecy. I met my wife, Jeanette Bonds there. The film went on to play at Ottawa as well which was another amazing experience.  Last year I was fortunate enough to animate on a project executive produced by James Franco ‘The Labyrinth’. He was teaching a class at USC along with John Watson (who produced Backdraft among other things) where they selected some of the brightest students at USC to make eight shorts based on the loose theme of “the unexplained and the unimaginable”. The shorts were to be cut into a feature and I was contacted close to the end to make animation in order to tie it all together. It was a bit crazy since the animation is essentially 2 minutes of hand drawn POV shots because the idea was really to let the audience get lost in a labyrinth. I don’t do any 3-d and I making it in After Effects seemed more trouble than it was worth so I just went ahead and drew everything, it was more than worth it in the end. It was a great project to work on, everyone involved was a pleasure to work with and I even got to record James for the voiceover.

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
I was a professional Horse’s Ass – Once as teenagers, my brother and I were hired to be part of a 2 man “Horse” costume at a birthday party. Y’know, where one guy is the front legs and head, and the other guy is the hind legs and back. Since I’m the younger brother, I had to be the ass.
