What is your name and your current occupation? 
Carlos Ramos. I’m currently freelancing as a storyboard artist, character designer, writer. I just got done storyboarding on all the Madagascar trailers and ads and a bit on Dreamwork’s Rise of the Guardians.  And as always pitching, pitching.

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
Thankfully I only had one job before getting into animation. In high school through my freshman year at college I was a Show Controller at Universal Studios Hollywood. Basically crowd control and making all the park announcements. That place is a real dump and I can’t imagine why people would pay money to go there but it was a really fun job.


What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?

Well, I haveto say the show I created at Nickelodeon: The X’s where I served as art director as well. The design theory was “No lines” so everything was colored shapes. AND it wasn’t in Flash. All hand drawn and animated by the amazing crew at Rough Draft, Korea. An extremely tough series we all bled on. I just recently rewatched a few episodes and it still holds-up.

How did you become interested in animation?
My earliest memory was attending a screening of a pencil test of The Black Couldron at the Disney Burbank lot when I was a kid. I was forever changed by the experience and actually seeing the bungalows where the animation happened intrigued me for sure. I was obsessed with Mad Magazine growing-up and always assumed that’s where I’d work when I “grew up”. But after the original editor William Gaines died the magazine’s quality did too so I had to think of another plan. I was going to Fairfax High School in the magnet arts program and one Saturday took an animation class and the instructor said that Cal Arts was the only school for people seriously contemplating a life in cartoons. I took those words to heart and was determined to get in even after being rejected and having to re-apply the following year. Looking back it was funny because I never visited the campus before the day of registration. And it was just a short drive from my house. I just knew it’s what I wanted.

 

Where are you from and how did you get into the animation business?
I’m from L.A. born in Burbank. Attended Cal Arts and got a job at DIC as a development artist the summer of my freshman year. My plan was to graduate college with a BFA with 3 years of experience under my belt. It was a balsy plan that worked out. I did the full four years and worked the summers and freelanced for Disney Television and DIC. Looking back I got really lucky. DIC was the funnest job I’ve ever had and at Disney I was a character designer on Nightmare Ned – a show I doubt anyone remembers but had the most hardcore bad ass crew ever assembled. Andrew Kaiko

What is your name and your current occupation?
Andrew Kaiko.  I am a creative developer at an advertising agency on internet content in Manhattan, New York.

 

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
My jobs before animation were pretty tame.  So the only thing that comes to mind is when I had to not only sort and prepare illustrators’ promotional packages for their clients at an illustrator agency, but take care of the boss, who was an old lady, and her home, where she ran her agency out of.  I replaced light bulbs and emptied water from the air conditioner all the time. One time she actually booked me with the task of getting myself ice cream, as a break!

 

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
‘Kappa Mikey’  was the first show I worked on at Animation Collective and was also the first show I ever had credit on, and you can’t very well forget something like that!  Not a week went by after getting my bachelor’s certificate, I got a phone call to go into the city for an interview there, and they gave me an offer right then.  This led to animating any anime-esque character who happened to appear in the shot (95% of the cast), and that meant six principle characters, various background extras, and occasional effects and props.  This never happens- I couldn’t believe my luck!  It had a superb cast of voice actors, which turned out to be the best thing about it.  The show isn’t liked by all, and yes, I am familiar with all the complaints, but I loved every second of production.  No other show since, even the shows following it at Animation Collective, was as enjoyable as this one, and that is true even into 2012.

Martin Cendreda

What is your name and your current occupation?

Martin Cendreda. Unemployed. Drawing some comics that I’ve neglected for a long time.
What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
Nothing crazy, most of them have been boring. As a teen, I worked at the Vogue theater in Hollywood, and later I found out it was haunted. Sadly, I didn’t experience anything paranormal.
What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
My first job out of animation school was the first season of South Park. The following year I worked on the movie.  I also worked on my friend Amy’s show, “Making Fiends” at Nickelodeon. Sadly, it got relegated to Nicktoons and never aired properly on Nickelodeon proper.

Chrissy Fellmeth

What is your name and your current occupation?
My name is Chrissy Fellmeth, and I’m currently a freelance animator, layout artist, and designer.

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
I was a lifeguard, though I never had to save anybody. After that I worked in a pharmacy selling lotto tickets.

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
My favorite gig was working on the Klok Opera and season 4 for Metalocalypse. It was so much fun to be a part of a show I actually watched and enjoyed before getting hired! But of course, my own films are my passion and my favorites to work on. While its really tough to motivate yourself, when all is said and done and you see your finished product, you just couldn’t be any more proud of yourself.

Where are you from and how did you get into the animation business?
I’m from Flemington, a small town in central New Jersey. When I was little my mom signed me up for art classes and it took off from there. I started getting into cartooning when I was young and my mom had found a small animation school in Cherry Hill, NJ that I attended for a few years every Saturday. I loved it!
