simpsonsThe Wrap is reporting that Homer Simpson will broadcast live, with some motion-capture help!

In the episode, Marge, Lisa and Bart will turn the show over to the family’s patriarch, who will take a break from stuffing his face to comment on the events of the day live during both the East Coast and West Coast broadcasts, Fox revealed on Tuesday. Executive Producer Al Jean told us much more on a phone call immediately following the announcement — for example, how in the world they plan to pull this thing off.

What is your name and your current occupation?
Hi, my name is Joshua Taback, I recently became episodic director on Randy Cunningham, 9th Grade Ninja.

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
Nothing too crazy. I worked at an AMC Movie Theater in high school and some of college.  It was perfect job to geek out at, especially when home video wasn’t as convenient as it is today.  When I was in school in Philly I worked at another movie theater that was more artsy. Blockbuster Video one summer.  All of which fed my film fanatic-ness. Besides that, camp counselor when I was younger, clerk in the humanities office at college.  I heard those folks talk a lot of dirt.  Then I “went west, young man” on the cupboard wagon of animation.

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
Since I had been on The Simpsons for eons, I would have to site specific episodes and sequences. The Wizard Of Evergreen Terrace, in which Homer becomes an inventor inspired by Thomas Edison, was an episode where I really hit my stride. There were a lot of great acting opportunities as well as action bits where I had a lot of fun and I think the episode turned out great. Also, being a fellow New Jerseyan I liked giving Edison a plug. As far as the shows I was an assistant director on, Homer The Moe was a show we really attacked and did well.  There were a lot of great bits and we did a lot of good animation.  I also did a good deal of storyboarding on that episode.  That’s about the time in my A.D. career that I began to have my hands on almost all the aspects of a show.

‘The Simpsons’ totally Awesome 80’s Couch Gag!

This montage, created by animator Steve Cutts, shows what The Simpsons would love have looked like on the set of Miami Vice. A particularly tickling touch is the “thou must kill forgive Simpson” on the wall of the heavily tattooed Flanders’ prison cell.

Animation House Film Roman Bought By Waterman Entertainment

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting (as they are wont to do) that Waterman Entertainment, the animation and live-action production company, has acquired the Burbank-based animation company Film Roman from Starz, it was announced today. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Film Roman is one of the defining names in animated content,” Waterman said in announcing the acquisition.  “Their track record is unparalleled and their team’s passion for executing top-shelf animation is evident in every frame they’ve created. Once it became clear how thoroughly our companies’ assets complemented each other, this deal was almost a foregone conclusion.

Dana Booton, who has been serving as Film Roman’s general manager, has been promoted to president of production. She will continue to oversee the company’s day-to-day business while also managing development and co-productions. Phil Roman, who founded Film Roman in 1984, is returning in the role of chairman emeritus and has been working with Booton and Waterman founder Steve Waterman.

The Simpsons opening in pixel art!

Genius! One of my first professional jobs was animating pixels for a company called Sierra Online working on old school Point and Click games such as Leisure Suit Larry, Space Quest and King’s Quest as well as Keeping up with Jones and it was very hard to do so I take my hats off to these fellas!

What is your name and your current occupation?
My name is Pete Michels and I am the Supervising Director on the upcoming hit show “Rick and Morty” for Adult Swim. I work at Starburns Industries in Burbank.

 

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
I never really had any crazy jobs. I once parked cars and did phone surveys. Both of those jobs lasted less than a weekend.

 

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
The Simpsons and Family Guy are probably the top projects. It’s an honor to be part of animation history.

 

How did you become interested in animation?
I think I’ve always been drawing cartoons, since I got the “Charlie Brown Dictionary” for Christmas one year. I was always watching “The Flintstones” and “Scooby-Doo”. But I think it was Ralph Bakshi’s version of “Lord of the Rings” that made me want to do that for a living.

 

Where are you from and how did you get into the animation business?
