What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
Not so sure I have ever had a job that would be considered ‘crazy,’ though I did manage to survive working at Toys R Us during Christmas rush.

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
Working on Teen Titans was a thrill. It remains one of my favorite working experiences to this day. What is your name?
Rich Arons
What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
Directing/Producing/writing on Animaniacs, Tiny Toons, Freakazoid, Biker Mice. Lately I’m having fun making cartoons on youtube and developing new properties.

What would you say has been your primary job in animation?
Directing/Producing (ha! I snuck in 2 jobs)

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
I scrubbed toilets at a miniature golf course, made sandwiches at Arby’s and cleaned school desks. I even studied to be a lousy auto mechanic once. I failed.

How did you become interested in animation?
Watching Bugs Bunny on TV as a little kid got me into it. I remember asking my mom, “what do they call those guys who draw those cartoons,” when I was about six, because I had to write a paper on what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wish she had said “billionaire” instead of  “animator.”

Where are you from and how did you get into the animation business?
I grew up in NYC and made a lot of flip books as a kid. I went to art school back east and then went to the Disney School at Cal Arts for college. I was also lucky enough to study under the great Ben Washam when he taught animation from his Continue reading

What is your name and your current occupation?

My name is Gerald de Jesus (pronounced “dee HAY-soos” instead of like “Jesus Christ”) and my current occupation is a Painter on “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”.

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
Before I got into Animation, I did a lot of editorial illustrations for places like “Entertainment Weekly”, “Capitol Records” and “The Village Voice”, as well as gallery work for my personal stuff.  Then things started drying up and I got really broke, so I helped my friend make floral arrangements at his flower shop.  Removing the thorns off roses really sucked.  I also had to do these really awful drawings of kids in wheel chairs or carrying crutches for this educational pamphlet…it was pretty demoralizing copying an art style I thought was atrocious.  Hey, whatever it took to pay the bills!

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
One of my favorite animation projects to work on was Nickelodeon’s “El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera”.  Not only was it a great looking show, the crew was just awesome to work with.  Jorge Gutierrez and Sandra Equihua (the creators of “El Tigre”) had such passion for the show, it infected everyone and we worked our hardest to make it look great.  It was sad that it was cancelled before its time, but we were recognized (post-humously) with a bunch of awards, including my first Emmy!

How did you become interested in animation?

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
Cleaned offices, taught aerobics, waitress, summer camp counselor, playing piano as background dinner music at a retirement home…
 
What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
Tigger Movie, Lion King sequel, Weekenders, and Lilo & Stitch sequel 
 
How did you become interested in animation?
 I could draw since I could pick up a pencil, but it wasn’t till the Little Mermaid came out that I knew I wanted to get into animation.
 
Where are you from and how did you get into the animation business?
I’m from San Luis Obispo, Ca. and attended CalArts in Valencia, Ca. I only went to school a year and then hit the pavement with my portfolio till I found someone to hire me.

What is your name and your current occupation?
Lewis, Lewisone Entertainment, Animation Director for Feature Films and Consumer Psychologist

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
I drove a tractor on a farm for two years in Junior high school pulling trees out of the ground and driving the product from the fields to the barn.  The farmer wanted me to work because I was the only one he knew that could speak spanish to the workers.  It was a wine farm with apples and grapes,  He told me I could eat all the grapes and apples I wanted.  My first big bite made me realize why he said that, fruit for wine production tastes like ass.
I went for one day with a farmer to take care of horses.  He had me put on a large glove that went to my shoulders and showed me my job of un-constipating horses.  All the farmer saw after training me was a burst of dust and by backside as I go out of there.  Soon after I landed an animation job at Warner.

What is your name and current occupation?
Davide Spada.

 

What are some of the crazier jobs you had before getting into animation?
I have always worked to the visual art as catoonist and graphic design.

 

 

What are some of your favorite projects you’re proud to have been a part of?
My first storyboard for italian horror movie and characters for a big animation project. Unfortunately the second project failed for economic reasons by the producer.

 

 

How did you become interested in animation?
Well, I have seen so many animation by Tim Burton, Pixar, Aardman, since that I start to think if I can to work animation business.

 

 

Where are you from and how did you get into the animation business?
I was born and grew up in Turin, Italy. I drew storyboards for adv for a big agency in Turin, then storyboards for movie and animation. I like to work in the pre-production creating characters, storyboards, backgrounds etc…

 

 

What’s a typical day like for you with regards to your job?
I working from my office. In the morning hours to check email, look at planning jobs and then with my creative staff establish what to do.

 

 

What part of your job do you like best? Why?
personally experience new graphic styles for giving works the right atmosphere.

 

 

What part of your job do you like least? Why?
race against time!

 

 

What kind of technology do you work with on a daily basis?
Wacom, Photoshop, Illustrator but I love HB pencil and sketch book.

 

 

What is the most difficult part for you about being in the business?
It has to be finding work every day. In Italy is most difficult working for the cinema because there isn’t culture for the storyboard.

 

 

In your travels, have you had any brushes with animation greatness?
Of corse, but the creativity arises watching all forms of art, I met G. Fontana (photographer), G. Cavazzano (cartoonist), R. Garofalo (author) and more…

 

 

Describe a tough situation you had in life.
I’ve had it pretty good so far.

 

 

Any side projects you’re working on that you’d like to share details of?
I usually start thinking new ideas and then I will do some doodle. Oh Well, I realized an horror animation movie for teenagers!

 

 

Any unusual talents or hobbies like tying a cherry stem with your tongue or metallurgy?
Play the electric guitar in high voltage.

 

 

Is there any advice you can give for an aspiring animation student or artist trying to break into the business?
work work work so hard. Don’t be afraid to meet people and compare with them.
